Double Bass Instructor at Houston Conservatory of Music
Tina Battaglia is a double bassist, educator, and researcher whose work spans orchestral performance, historical performance practice, music scholarship, and pedagogy. She earned her Master of Music from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music, studying with Andy Raciti, after graduating with honors from James Madison University under the mentorship of Dr. Sam Suggs.
As a performer, Tina has appeared with orchestral, jazz, and early music ensembles, including the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, and the Amherst Early Music Festival. Alongside performing, she is deeply engaged in music scholarship, researching how eighteenth century pedagogical traditions, including partimenti and historical compositional exercises, can be adapted for modern double bass education.
As an educator, Tina is passionate about creating lessons that are both rigorous and inspiring, emphasizing individualized instruction and encouraging students to develop technical confidence, musical curiosity, and creative independence. Drawing from her background in performance, historical research, and music theory, she helps students build strong technical skills alongside a lifelong connection to music.
